Luck finally smiled upon a regular customer of Irish sports betting giant Paddy Power, who collected the hefty sum of £65,000 in winnings from horse wagering. The customer, who frequented his local Paddy Power betting shop in Dublin for years, made an each-way Lucky 15 wager on four different horses to the total amount of €24, which is roughly around £20.
The first two selections of the lucky punter won at odds of 33 to 1 for the 12.25 Lingfield race and 20 to 1 for a 12.50 Leopardstown race. Afterwards, he managed to repeat his success at odds of 7 to 1 for another race that took place at the same racing venue. Then it all came down to his fourth and final selection in the feature race of the day, held at Limerick Racecourse.
The Lucky Punter Defied Jaw-Dropping Odds of over 72,000 to 1
The final wager won at odds of 16 to 1, effectively earning the anonymous Paddy Power customer a windfall of €76,287, or around £65,000 in profits from a £20 bet. The bettor succeeded in defying jaw-dropping odds of more than 72,000 to 1 with his four-selection Lucky 15.
A spokesperson of the Irish betting giant commented on the massive windfall, saying that the staff members of the bookmaking shop were thrilled by the fact the punter’s luck has finally turned around.
The spokesperson explained the winner has been a regular customer of this Paddy Power branch for years and it was great to finally see him realize a huge win in spite of the eye-watering odds he had to defy.
Regardless of the 72,000 to 1 odds, this is not the most impressive win scored by a customer who wagered on sports with the Irish gambling firm by far. January 2018 saw an anonymous online customer land a windfall of over €380,000 with a sports wager as small as €5.
The mysterious punter wagered on seven football matches with both teams to score while at the same time accurately predicting the exact results of the games. However, the title for the biggest win in the history of the Irish gambling giant belongs to a Northern Ireland chef who netted the staggering prize of £4.2 million from an online slot game with a £10 bet.
The odds-defying win in the Dublin Paddy Power branch happened just weeks after Stewart Kenny, co-founder of the Irish gambling giant, criticised UK betting companies for not doing enough to adequately address problem gambling.
As Casino Guardian wrote earlier this month, Mr Kenny cited this as the reason for his resignation from Paddy Power in an interview conducted by ABC. He parted ways with the betting company back in 2016.
